Ismail gained an LGV Class C+E licence (– to drive maximum weight articulated vehicles) thanks to a training program organised by Road to Logistics. He had previously studied for a degree in Mechanical Engineering at St David’s University and subsequently a masters at Swansea University. Ismail then joined Tata Steel, as a Mechanical Engineering Graduate at the Port Talbot works.

With the threat of potential redundancies at Port Talbot Ismail applied to train to gain an LGV driving licence and become an LGV driver in the logistics sector. The training program he enrolled for is organised by Road to Logistics on behalf of Cardiff and Vale College. The final element of the training, which involves the practical tuition and test, was provided by Crosshands Training of Cwmgwili in Carmarthenshire, who supported Ismail through the process.

Ismail is currently still working for Tata Steel, but should circumstances change he is now fully qualified to make the career change to become a professional LGV driver.
